AutoCAD is used for designing 2D and 3D architectural and mechanical drawings. It also includes many tools for technical and industrial drawing and drafting.

Software Architecture and Function

Users can have the drawing scale automatically to the canvas. They can use a rubber band to resize objects by dragging a reference point. A key aspect of the drawing tool, the rubber band allows the user to scale and position objects as a group. This works by measuring and drawing from one object to another, or from a set reference point to another point on the drawing surface. The rubber band can be used to define a series of related objects for continuous editing.

A user can combine groups of objects into a new object or delete them all, providing a quick and easy way to change the level of detail in the drawing.

AutoCAD provides three ways to create drawings:
