many computer problems are caused by missing or outdated device drivers, especially in windows 11. if your desktop or laptop is running slow, or keeps crashing or hanging, there is a good chance that updating your drivers will fix the problem.
i’ve put some work into this driver and should have it soon available, just have a few little things to solve, but once it’s done i’m quite happy. i’m looking forward to whatever improvement i can make over the 7yr old version of the driver.
i wanted to update this driver to the latest one available, since the one currently in the store for me has the 1, 3 and 4 button working, and the 2 and the 5 is broken. and that is just not acceptable.
i installed the updater, updated it, and both xbox controllers worked perfectly!
and i’m so happy! i’ll really use the driver it’s wonderful!
i like that there’s support for controllers that have the extra connector on the back, though. good job, guys.
there are a few programs you can use to map the pads, but here is a simpler approach that doesn’t require third party software. it is recommended that you backup any custom configuration files and system files before undertaking this!
or, you can remove any device you wish to use from the list of devices in the device manager by right clicking on it and then selecting uninstall/remove. this way you are able to bypass the error (per above link).
in my case, i bypassed the error. then i restarted my pc and i was able to install my dance mat and use it for xbox pads. i could not make it connect to the pc through usb, but i am still investigating this matter and i will let you know when i find out if that is possible.
i will, however, recommend that you use windows 8/8.1 (or even older) for installing your drivers and the drivers on the ubuntu machine may not work for you, not sure. it may be worth your while trying to get windows 10 compatability on your drivers.
unfortunately, i have no experience with configuring this other than using the supplied xbox 2/3 drivers with the controller. however, after a lot of hunting i did find a xbox2 config.exe program that let you configure the xbox controller in a dos environment. it appears to be missing the “automatic” integration which i was expecting to be included with the supplied driver for the controller but this is a step forward in configuring your pad in windows.
windows 9/10 does not allow you to install drivers without digital signatures. this is because microsoft like to always put the windows media player and other required programs onto the installation media with updates so that they may auto install those programs if they are not there on the user’s pc.
